  1. The bedriddenness rank, routinely checked by a nurse, was derived from the medical charts for Assessment 1. In Assessment 2, bedriddenness was checked independently within 72 h after admission, and without knowledge of the Assessment 1 results, by a medical social worker or a medical clerk, i.e. a person of a medical profession other than a nurse
